When? Once a week in the school year 2021/22 (exact day of the week will be known later, the workshops will probably take place on Wednesday afternoons)
Where? CSK France Prešeren (Karunova 14), Ljubljana
Mentors: Bojan Cvetrežnik, Barja Drnovšek, guest mentors of Godalkanja
For whom? For all the strings and rhythm sections (bass, guitar, ukulele, accordion,…) who master the repertoire for the 6th grade of lower music school. Especially for anyone who has graduated from junior music school and would like to continue with playing music.
What? At the Godalkanje group workshops, we teach contents that are not yet widely available in our country. We draw mainly from the treasury of violin tunes of different traditions. We learn by listening, improvising, following chords, performing different techniques (‘chops’, jig, swing, different ornaments…). We consolidate the learned repertoire at street performances and in concert halls.
More information and registration: godalkanje@gmail.com
When? Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7.30 – 8.00 (winter set from December 3, 2020 to March 21, 2021)
Where? On Zoom
What? Group morning playing for all strings. Our motto is: How to get there? Together!
Online instrumental teaching, of course, has limitations that teachers face in their daily work. And yet we can focus on the positives. We ask ourselves – does it also allow for something that an individual visit to a music school does not? Here are some positive experiences of online teaching combined with reviewing home videos:
easier control over how children actually exercise at home
the responsibility for solid performance when making the recording lies with the student
greater flexibility in grouping students in need of the same subject matters
listening to each other and commenting on other students’ recordings, correcting mistakes without a teacher.
We could go on and on. However, we will focus on collective technique exercises. In individual lessons, it is impossible to organize the schedule by practicing technical exercises with students in groups several times a week for 15 minutes. In online learning, this is possible. The structure is somewhat broader, more academic, intended for a broader picture. At a lower level, you should stick to practicing one discipline for a longer period of time. Children need to be able to compare themselves to others and to lead a conference exercise themselves.
Performances, called ‘Morning Starters’, have been held since December 2020 three times a week, every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for 30 minutes between 7:30 and 8:00 in the morning. The meetings are intended for:
a better structured workday after the morning routine
a better overview of the breadth of existing violin playing disciplines
easier planning of one’s own performances
better condition for playing the instrument
overcoming adolescent depressions
Each meeting consists of two disciplines, usually one with an emphasis on the left hand and the other on the right. However, one can also be a training in understanding the theory of scales and chords or it is of a rhythmic nature. Once a week, we leave the leadership to one of the participants. At least once it is a replica of an already presented exercise, the second time the participants can also present something new that was not yet in our menu. The possibilities for a different structure adjusted to your students and content are limitless.
If you are interested, send an e-mail to godalkanje@gmail.com and we will send you a link to the zoom conference.
When? Ladies and Gentlemen, we are sorry to have to MOVE the WORKSHOP due to measures to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The date will be announced when it is confirmed, but we anticipate that the workshop will take place in the second week of August 2021!
Where? Mekinje Monastery, Kamnik
What? The Transylvanian violin came to us through Jean-Christoph Gairard, who stopped in Slovenia with Emilio Castiello on one of his many trips to the Roma village of Beica. The village lies near the more famous city of Cluj-Napoca and Jean went there regularly to learn from the master Marcel Ramba. The one-way trip from Marseille is over 2200 km and most of the time he drove it in his yellow van. Bojan Cvetrežnik and Barja Drnovšek also visited the masters twice in the heart of Transylvania for an intensive education. Marcel said he doesn’t remember exactly how many times Jean was there. “Maybe 30 times?” he thought. There are debates as to whether the styles of the regions can be learned even without travel. Opinions vary, but those who have learned to sound in some violin dialect usually say that you can only study in the second phase without traveling. At Godalkanje, we tried to bring the knowledge of the regions as close as possible. This year’s Transylvanian music workshops will take place at the academic level. All applications were collected without promotion, only with personal invitations. Participants from Belgium, Germany, Italy, Austria, France and Slovenia will learn most of the visions on their own before arrival. Thus, Slovenia is becoming a point where the door is set through which violinists of Central and Northern Europe can enter the world of Balkan violin styles, and violinists of the Balkans can enter the world of the richness of violin styles of Central and Northern Europe.
Where? CSK France Prešeren, Karunova 14, Ljubljana
What? We created the concert cycle of urban folk music with strings so that the performances of great violin masters, guest mentors of Godalkanje, can be experienced live in Ljubljana. Slovenia is known in European professional circles for its master classes in various violin styles. We don’t just host mentors; also learning eager professional musicians are brought from afar to be able to attend education according to our standards.
Concert evenings are events that go beyond just listening to a concert, as the official part is usually followed by a jam session, during which it is not difficult to swim into feelings of immortality.
Hard times (pandemic restrictions) did not take away our courage for concert performances, so we are starting with a new form of interconnecting circles of friends, experts and lovers of live acoustic music.
from April 27 to May 1, 2021. The whole week of Godalkanje, Fiddle Gang Jams and concerts of international bands in CSK: we are already looking forward to!
(The exact schedule will be known after the spring release of restrictions. False hope dies last!)
Where? Festivalna dvorana, Vilharjeva 11, Ljubljana
What? This year’s big concert of Godalkanje corresponds to the memory of those who are no longer with us. But the program will be even more earthly. It will be woven by the lands of the famous Count Dracula – Transylvania.
The artistic director of the concert will be Jean-Christophe Gairard, already known to the Slovenian audience, who will upgrade his previous productions with Godalkanje and Symbolic Orchestra. Jean-Christophe spent a large part of his life in Transylvania, where he studied traditional and gypsy music. He is a violinist, composer and a sought-after mentor of Transylvanian and Romanian music, leading workshops throughout Europe. In 2014, he was a soloist in the international project “European Symbolic Orchestra”, with which he also recorded the album “Terrafolk & European Symbolic Orchestra – XXLive”. In 2012 and 2016, he led Romanian music workshops as part of Godalkanje and recorded quite a few successful online videos with it.
The orchestra will consist of musicians from six countries. Unfortunately, we will not be dancing this year, but we will be able to practice patience – itching in the heels can be a huge discomfort.
Visitors will be able to enjoy melodies from around Transylvania, including Moldova, Romania and Banat. The event will also be the announcement of a cycle of five “Urban Folk” concerts organized by Godalkanje at the Center of Slavic Cultures (CSK) France Prešeren.

For whom? For all sting players and players of the rhythm section (bass, guitar, ukulele, accordion …), who master the repertoire for the 3rd class of lower music school.
What? At Godalkanje group workshops, we teach content that is not yet widely available in our country. We draw mainly from the treasury of violin tunes of different nations. We learn by listening, following chords, performing different techniques (‘chops’, jig, swing, different ornamentation…). We refresh the learned repertoire at street performances and in concert halls.
Where? Music school Laško Radeče, Valvazorjev trg 2, Laško
For whom? For all the string players.
Required level of prior knowledge: sovereign performance of the repertoire for the 2nd grade of lower music school.
For the seventh year in a row, immediately after the end of the school year, Godalkanje will take place in Laško as part of the Romanica Antiqua festival. The mentors will be Bojan Cvetrežnik and Barja Drnovšek. In the case of registered participants with different backgrounds, we will make two groups. We will introduce children to attractive tunes with the desire to strengthen technical stability, a sense of pulse, self-confidence in performance and the joy of playing. We will learn the technique of performing accompaniments by following a written chordal guide typical of jazz music. We will also pay attention to the safe physiological posture of children. We hope that the nice weather will allow us to play also in the nearby park or on the streets. If you have concerns or fears, you can contact us or those who had fear in previous years but no longer know it.
Registration fee: 150 €
We are happy that care for minors will be this year organized again. The organizer offers a favorable opportunity for a stay at the Laško Health Resort.
