What?
The first VRTNI KAVČ FESTIVAL (GARDEN SOFA FESTIVAL) took place throughout Slovenia from 7 to 9 May 2021; it was a series of intimate cultural events in courtyards, gardens, window sills and roofs. The festival cheered up neighborhoods and neighborhoods of multi-apartment buildings. Part of the festival event was also an all-inclusive action of performances from the balconies, when the performers played for random passers-by.

kaj? Po celi Sloveniji je od 7. do 9. maja 2021 potekal prvi VRTNI KAVČ FESTIVAL, niz intimnih kulturnih dogodkov na dvoriščih, vrtovih, okenskih policah in strehah. Festival je s podoknicami razigral soseske in dvorišča večstanovanjskih stavb. Del festivalskega dogajanja pa je bila tudi vsevključujoča akcija nastopov z balkonov, ko so izvajalci zaigrali za naključne mimoidoče.

What? We strive for a greater diversity of music genres in Slovenian public music production. Music genres differ from each other by different criteria. And yet music is still ONE, a unique magic with which we awaken mysterious forces in human society. You could even attribute supernatural power to it. Because political or other divisions point to differences or disagreements in society on a daily basis, we prefer to think about what the different music genres have in common. We believe that musical intercultural dialogue can contribute to improving dialogue between all people. What do music genres have in common? Genres do not differ in how much time, knowledge, talent and skill is required to achieve excellence. In music which we don’t know, all the songs sound similar to us. The more we know the genre, the greater richness of diversity we find within each genre.
We expressed our support: Godalkanje Fiddle Gang under the direction of Barja Drnovšek and Bojan Cvetrežnik.

Upamo, da nam bo tudi letos takoj po koncu šolskega leta uspelo izpeljati Godalkanje v Laškem. Delavnice potekajo v okviru festivala Romanica Antiqua že osmo leto zapored. Mentorja bosta Bojan Cvetrežnik in Barja Drnovšek. Ker ena generacija Godalkarjev odhaja na kurse na višji zahtevnostni ravni, je letos še posebno primeren čas, da se priključite novi udeleženci (seveda pa tudi “starim” ne bo dolgčas).
Spoznavali bomo otrokom atraktivne viže z željo, da bodo utrdile tehnično stabilnost, občutek za pulz, samozavest pri nastopanju ter veselje do igranja. Učili se bomo tehnike izvajanja spremljav s sledenjem zapisanemu akordičnemu vodilu, značilne za jazz glasbo. Pazili bomo tudi na varno fiziološko držo otrok. Upamo, da nam bo lepo vreme omogočilo tem več igre v bližnjem parku ali na ulicah. Če imate pomisleke ali strahove, se lahko obrnete na nas ali na tiste, ki so strah imeli prejšnja leta, pa ga ne poznajo več.
Za pedagoško varstvo mladoletnih udeležencev bo poskrbljeno.

Participants can choose from 2 programs:
– Masterclass (advanced level, audition tape required)
– Special Courses (medium-advanced level)
Our mission is:
– connecting European influential crossover fiddlers with more focus on the instrument specialities than at traditional Ethno
– to learn from specialized fiddlers for some region/style
– to give a chance to join professionals
– to join every day’s ‘Fiddle Gang Jam’, with the set list known in advance, organized rhythm section and provided materials
– experiencing every day’s spontaneous jam sessions
Fiddle Gang Jam
There will be a Godalkanje tent at the festival Kamfest in the downtown of Kamnik, reserved only for Balkan Fiddle Gate participant’s performing. Every evening’s Fiddle Gang Jam and the mentor’s concert. Rather than preparing a concert production, we will include the learned materials in the ‘Fiddle Gang Jam’ every day. Special Courses mentors will be curators of Fiddle Gang Jam’s line-up and set list. We will hire some professionals as a rhythm section. 1 hour set. After that, a free jam.

Participation & Lodging
All participants will live and practice in the Monastery Mekinje, 15 minutes walk from Kamnik down-town.

special price for 2021 (the festival pays 1/3): 140 €
one day boarding (one Masterclass and one Special Courses session): 40 €
