NUBRAS is a unique ensemble in Italy, able to blend the elegance of chamber music with the energy of folk traditions from Southern Italy and the Balkans. An international project bringing together musicians from Italy, Spain, and Romania, it creates a sonic experience that weaves ancient roots and contemporary impulses into a boundless musical dialogue.

The powerful voice of Roxana Ene, an Italian-Romanian Romani artist with a long-standing collaboration with Moni Ovadia, adds depth and authenticity. The violins of Bari and Mulas weave refined melodies, intertwining sonic details from Eastern Europe and Spanish tradition. Conte’s accordion and the vibrant energy of Gadotti’s saxophone and gajda open the doors to the brightness of folklore, while the percussion of Giovanni Lo Cascio, a historic figure in Italian world music, and Igor Legari’s jazz double bass complete a powerful and unmistakable sound.

With this combination of talents and cultures, NUBRAS is today one of the most fascinating realities in the Italian world music scene, able to enchant diverse audiences, from prestigious theaters to the most contemporary clubs. In March 2025, the ensemble was invited to perform at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, one of the most important crossroads for the artistic growth of emerging musical talents for almost a century.

In Arabic, نُبراس (nubrās) means lantern, and it is used figuratively to indicate a source of light or inspiration

Karoliine-Lisette Kōiv – violin, guitar, vocals

Karoliine-Lisette Kõiv aka Tidi (EST) is a dynamic musician seamlessly blending folk and jazz. She is experienced in a wide variety of styles ranging from Estonian and Nordic traditional music to well-known jazz standards. With a traditional music degree from Heino Eller Tartu Music College and jazz violin studies at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy, Tidi has further expanded her knowledge in different musical cultures by participating in many diverse musical gatherings and projects (EthnoWorld, Fiddlers’ On The Move, Folk Marathon, etc) around the world.

As she keeps finding new ways to express her creativity, music and performing has become Tidi’s essence; already a multi-instrumentalist in her youth with violin and singing, she later embraced guitar, ukulele, piano and percussion to craft a unique musical identity. Her compositions fuse singer-songwriter storytelling with folk rhythm and jazzy harmonies. Tidi’s music is a vessel of stories, as she believes that the soul of every tune or song lies in the emotion and non-verbal message hidden within the music . Her songs and arrangements can be heard in her own ensemble Tidi&bande, folk music duo Compass, world music trio SaJaKa and in an experimental music collective The Weighted Keys.
