Multi-instrumentalist Oscar Beerten from Belgium draws deeply on traditional music, channeling impressions of music rooted in continuousness and trance.
This is achieved through story-telling with traditional bowed-instruments such as the Norwegian hardanger fiddle. After seven years of travels and studies at several music academies in the Nordic countries, Oscar set sail for Finland in 2020, where he currently studies a ‘Master of Global Music’ at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, building and fine-tuning a creative framework for meaningful musical dialogue in intercultural learning environments. Since the age of sixteen, Oscar immersed himself in numerous folk musics and traditional music from both the Nordic countries and Central Europe. Through he’s compositions, Oscar attempts to make musical connections carrying echoes of the Sahel region, traces from Central Europe, and eternal Norwegian dance music. As a performing artist with he’s main band Raske Drenge, his compositions therefore also touch upon diverse influences from Scandinavian and Transatlantic folk music, with an innovative personal interpretation.
